Directions to Angel Falls

Angel Falls is on Map 18 B4 in the Maine Atlas and Gazetteer

Hiking distance: Apporx. 3/4 mile to the falls.

Follow Rt 17 from Coos Canyon in Byron 4 miles west(towards Rangeley and Height of Land). Turn left onto a dirt road at the end of a long field. Take your odometer reading again and follow this road 3 1/2 miles. A short ways in, the road bears to the right just after a house. A short camp road goes to the left. A high clearance vehicle is recommended for this road. The trail to Angel Falls starts at a washed out road to the left. There was an Angel Falls sign on a tree when we were there and a spot to park just off the road. The road to the left goes down a steep hill and to the left. If you have a four wheel drive and some courage you could drive down the dirt road and park at the bottom. Plenty of space to park down there. After turning left at the bottom of the hill into the large clearing, go straight into the woods. Soon you will cross a stream (Berdeen Stream), bear left. The trail is not well marked but we had no problem following the path. Shortly you'll come to the second stream(Mountain Brook). You have to cross this stream 3 times to get to the falls. Angel Falls is a 90' waterfall and the hike will take about 30 minutes one way in good conditions.

Warning, if you go after a rainy period,(which is the best time to see the falls) the streams can be roaring down the mountain. Rock hopping is not an option. Wear something on your feet that you can wade in. It is well worth the trip.
